August 31, 2010 • Bangor, ME – The Acadia Hospital will be represented at the International Conference on Early Psychosis in November, 2010. Acadia Aware Program Director Jessica Pollard, PhD, is the lead researcher who created a poster presentation entitled, “Sleep Dependent Memory Consolidation in Prodromal and First Episode Schizophrenia” in collaboration with Dr. Marie Hayes of the Maine Institute for Health and Human Genetics and Drs. Manoach and Stickgold of Harvard University. The study examines how sleep may impact learning in the early stages of psychotic disorders.

The conference, scheduled for November 28 to December 1 in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, will be an excellent opportunity for Dr. Pollard to network with early psychosis experts from around the world, as well as allow for the acquisition of cutting edge research insights from around the globe.

The poster presentation abstract was selected by the conference’s Scientific Committee from a large number of abstracts submitted for consideration. “We are pleased to have the Aware Program’s work recognized on an international level. It reflects the quality of the prodrome research, screening and treatment activities taking place at Acadia Hospital,” stated Acadia Vice President and Chief of Clinical Services Brent Scobie, LCSW, CCS.

The Acadia Hospital is a private, non-profit psychiatric and chemical dependency treatment provider. As a member of EMHS, Acadia works with its affiliated organizations to ensure the highest quality care is available to all who need it. Go to www.acadiahospital.org for more hospital information.
