About Maine Ahead

Maine Ahead magazine is Maine’s business and executive lifestyle magazine, dedicated to providing “business intelligence and inspiration for people in charge.”

Webster Atlantic Corporation also proudly publishes Bangor Metro magazine, Real Maine Weddings magazine, and a variety of custom titles through its sister company, Dirigo Custom Publishing.

Launched in January 2010, Maine Ahead magazine is published 10 times a year by Webster Atlantic Corporation, a Maine-owned and operated company with offices in Portland and Bangor, Maine.

In addition to newsstand sales and paid subscribers, Maine Ahead magazine is also direct-mailed to over 14,000 C-level Maine executives each month. This includes titles such as owner, partner, CEO, CFO, COO, CIO, VP, Executive Director, General Manager, plus centers of influence such as government and municipal officials, non-profit executives, state policy-makers, major philanthropists, thought-leaders, and retired professionals.

Maine Ahead magazine’s mission, says publisher Mark T. Wellman, is “to dramatically improve Maine’s economic vitality and prosperity.”

The practical application of this mission, says his business partner, Editor-in-Chief Tori Britton, is “to, over time, profile the smartest people in Maine in Maine Ahead—while the rest of the smartest people in Maine read what they have to say,” she says. “Our vision of Maine Ahead is to foster a much-needed version of ‘talk amongst yourselves’ among Maine’s movers-and-shakers. We’re doers, publishing a magazine for doers.”

Ten times a year, Maine Ahead magazines showcases Maine’s premiere business professionals and companies through intelligent interviews and features—presented in an elegant, visually-pleasing, easy-to-absorb format.

“Maine business leaders are extremely busy,” says Maine Ahead publisher Mark Wellman, “and they are inundated with information that changes by the minute. Maine Ahead magazine is about backing up and looking at bigger issues. It’s about listening to the people who have walked the walk, and giving every intelligent reader something that is worth the time they invest in reading Maine Ahead. I can’t tell you,” he adds, “how many people tell me they read the magazine cover to cover.”

While Maine Ahead magazine appreciates and depends on “faster” forms of information, it takes a needed broader view. ‘

“We have some serious changes to make in order to realize our economic potential in Maine,” Wellman says. “These changes require reflection, planning, and determination. Sit down and read any one issue of Maine Ahead, and I guarantee you’ll be smarter, be more grounded in reality. You may have new questions, but they’ll be intelligent questions. And, I guarantee, you’ll also be entertained and inspired. The caliber of people we get to talk to in Maine Ahead on a monthly basis,” he concludes, ” is astounding.”
