Good Shepherd Food-Bank to Honor Larry Wold, President of TD Bank-Maine

March 30, 2010 • Auburn, ME – This year’s recipient of Good Shepherd Food-Bank’s JoAnn Pike Humanitarian Award will be Larry Wold, President of TD Bank-Maine. Mr. Wold and TD Bank will be honored at the JoAnn Pike Humanitarian Award Dinner on May 17 at the Holiday in By the Bay. The evening will feature a reception, dinner, program and entertainment from Bob Marley.

“We are proud to have the chance to honor an outstanding community leader and institution,” remarked Rick Small, executive director of the Food-Bank. “Larry has been an incredible advocate not only for the Food-Bank, but non-profit organizations throughout Maine.”

TD Charitable Foundation has donated over $680,000 to hunger relief organizations from Maine to Florida. Over $120,000 has been donated to Good Shepherd Food-Bank. TD Bank provides financial and other support to affordable housing initiatives, basic needs, financial literacy, education and the environment.
Wold joined TD Banknorth, now TD Bank, in 1991 as a commercial loan officer. Prior to being name president, he served as TD Banknorth’s executive vice president of commercial lending for the southern Maine region. Wold is active in the community and serves on various boards and committees throughout the state.

Previous JoAnn Pike Humanitarian Award winners include Ron Hodge, president of Delhaize America (formerly president of Hannaford Bros. Co.) and David Barber, executive vice president of Barber Foods.

This celebration also serves as an opportunity to raise the funds needed to eliminate hunger in Maine. Maine ranks ninth in the nation for food insecurity and has the highest food insecurity ranking of any state in New England.

The largest hunger relief organization in Maine, Good Shepherd Food-Bank provides for those at risk of hunger by soliciting and distributing surplus food to more than 600 partner agencies. Since 1981, the Food-Bank has partnered with individuals, businesses and farmers to alleviate hunger and build community relationships. During fiscal year 2008-2009, the Food-Bank distributed 12 million pounds of food to families and individuals throughout Maine.
